The centre opened in September 2011.
Jardin Eden centre is located in the heart of Yaoundé. It is open all year round, 5 days a week, every day after school from 2pm to 6pm including during the school holidays. It is intended for children aged from 5 to 12 years old, whose families are in a very precarious situation.
The goal of the centre is to provide some of the most disadvantaged children with the necessary skills to develop their imagination and creativity whilst providing the tutoring needed to enable them to keep up with the school curriculum. Children can find a peaceful place in the centre where they can learn. They can also have access to books. Through activities and role plays, they are also learning about hygiene, concentration in class and respect for community rules. Through sport they learn social skills, awareness of human biology, self-control and dealing with the ups and downs in life.
How does it operate?
In order to enrol a new beneficiary, we follow a strict admission criteria regarding the age and the vulnerability of the child, as well as the financial situation of his/her family.
Throughout the year, children take part in fundraising activities for the benefit of the centre such as the end-of-year party, theatre or dance, selling items for Christmas, etc. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the international and local volunteers for their dedication to the centre.
